For environments with high temperatures, high pressure and/or high voltage, we offer composite hybrid structures for data signal transfer. Depending on the application and need for control signals and/or other data transfer, the cable can be furnished with a varying configuration of optical and copper lines. Despite their multi-material composition, these new hybrid cables are extremely light, compared to armoured cables, for example. The product is intended for permanent installation, such as cabling buildings and tunnels.

The multi-layer basalt cable is a new type of composite core. It is made up of high-quality basalt fibre, a thin-walled stainless steel covering of exceptional strength and a communication cable (an optical fibre, coax or copper wire), all combined in a casing of polyamide, polyethylene or high-density polyethylene. This composite cable core has excellent properties:
A new high-tech material
The cable is based on a new, high-tech material: the mineral fibres found in basalt, an alkaline, volcanic rock. The material was originally used for the thermal insulation of nuclear reactors and is now being further developed as a material mixture that can prevent practically any cable breakage. Frequent repairs due to a cable break are now a thing of the past. Because of this material’s unique properties, it is practically indestructible. It has a very high crack resistance and retains its functionality at very high temperatures.
Basalt fibre properties
On top of producing and processing fibre composite components and modules, this medium-sized family business has now expanded its portfolio by producing sliding cables and hybrid cables. These cables are based on high-strength and light-weight composite material. Additionally, all the elements for data transfer are protected by thin but stable basalt or fiberglass rods. This makes the cables extremely robust and flexible, with a high restoring force and resistance to enormous mechanical forces.
Hybrid cables – light, individually adjustable and ‘HD-ready’
Despite their good shear stability, hybrid cables are relatively light and flexible. The hybrid cable is HD-ready and definitely suitable for high-resolution video data transmission.
Basalt – originally used to insulate nuclear reactors
Basalt is a common volcanic rock that is known for its resistance to wear and pressure. Because of its properties, this material was first used as insulation material for nuclear reactors. Now it is also applied to these composite cables. Cable breakages or other forms of damage are virtually non-existent thanks to this mix of materials.
